The Seiko Watch: A Stylish Watch from Asia

July 15th, 2007 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

When looking for a stylish watch, there are many things that one should consider. Price is, of course, an important factor, but no less important is the look of the watch and its efficiency. Those looking for a stylish Asian watch should thus look into purchasing a Seiko watch.

A History of the Seiko Watch and the Seiko Corporation

The Seiko Corporation which produces Seiko watches, is a Japanese watch company that was started by Kintaro Hattori in 1881. This first shop was both a jewelry and a watch shop, and it was located in Japan’s Ginza area. In 1892, Hattori expanded his line of products to also include clocks, manufactured under the name of Seikosha.

Despite having produced watches in the latter part of the 19th century, the first watches that were specifically known as Seiko watches did not appear on the market until 1924. A Seiko watch names the Seiko Astron was introduced onto the market in 1969. This watch was indeed notable, as it was the first production quartz watch. As such, it was quite expensive, costing the same amount that a medium-sized car at the time would.

The Seiko Watch Today

Seiko watches today are used for a number of important events. Most notably, the Olympic games have used these watches as their official timekeepers because they are known to be amazingly accurate.

Although the Seiko Corporation produces many different styles of watches, the most popular type of Seiko watch is the wristwatch. Since this company is one of only a few that manufacture every facet of the watch in-house, these watches are known also for their advanced technology.

The Seiko brand manufactures both mechanical and quartz watches. Some of types of Seiko watches require no battery at all, as they are powered by everyday wear. Seiko watches vary according to price, with the cheapest generally being under $100 and the most expensive costing several thousand dollars.

If one is a collector of these watches, it should be noted that the Seiko Corporation does not make every type of watch available in every area. Indeed, there are many types of these watches that are only available in Asia.

If one is looking into purchasing a Seiko watch, one should first consult the phonebook for reputable watch dealers, or the internet. Indeed, this type of watch is the ideal choice for those looking for a watch that is both attractive and efficient.

How to Choose a Watch Winder

July 12th, 2007 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

Like other products, watch winders are available in a great variety with respect to their functions and price range. For some people, a cheap winder bought on discount seems the best choice. For others, choosing a particular brand within the same kind of watch winder is the issue. Aesthetics or appearance of the winder and its features are also important things to consider before buying. Let’s look at the two main types of watch winders.

Manual

Manual winders work by using screwed crowns. These are the more traditional type of winders with a main disadvantage: you have to remember winding on time and there is some degree of wearing down of the crowns each time you wind the watch.

Automatic

An automatic winder runs by means of an internal IC electronic circuit. It comes pre-programmed from the manufacturer such that it automatically turns on and off after a specified period of time. No human intervention is required to turn the winder on. Due to this facility, automatic watch winders have recently enjoyed immense popularity.

Types of Swiss Watch Winders

When you are out for your first watch winder purchase, consider buying a Swiss watch winder. Like Swiss watches, Swiss companies like Penelop make high quality watch winders. Sadly, some manufacturers of watch winders declare themselves as Swiss when in reality they use only Swiss mechanisms (their winders are not originated in Swiss locations). If the country of origin matters to you be sure that you buy a real Swiss winder. Also, consider buying a winder box or case to protect your winder.

There are three main types of watch winders for you to buy as described below.

Functional

These can wind one or more watches and should be placed on a flat surface so as to hold the watch’s exterior.

Elegant

These normally come enclosed in a box and have an attractive appearance.  They are mainly composed from polished wood or leather and are nice to place on your room’s mantelpiece or in display cabinets.

Extravagant

Extravagant watch winders combine the functionality and elegance of the functional and elegant watch winders. They can cost quite a bit, so carefully weigh the cost of the winder to the actual time piece or pieces you collect.

Popular Brands

Some of the more popular brands include the names Everwell, Wolf Design, Penelop, Scatola del Tempo, Steinhausen, and Eilux.

The Nixon Watch Is the Sports Watch with the ‘Wow’ Factor

July 10th, 2007 by admin   Subscribe To Our Feed

Athletes usually use sports watches because these watches are well equipped to handle all the rigors of training and practicing the sport, whatever it may be. The swimmer, for example, would have a watch that is water proof, the mountain climber one which is scratch proof and possibly shock proof as well; the sprinter would like a sports watch with a stop watch and so on. Very limited models of sports watches however, are both good looking as well as excellent in their functions. The Nixon watch is one among this breed of watches.

The Nixon Watch Is a Wonderfully Versatile Gadget for Athletes

Athletes all over the world find this watch exceptionally adaptive to any type of sport. It is water proof, and hence it is great for water related sports; it is shock proof and hence good for all other sports which can involve rough usage. Besides, you get to choose from a variety of models that would suit every wrist, every personality, and nearly every sport too.

Some models such as the Super Hero and the Boss have been preferred above other models because they can be used anywhere, anytime. Their quiet elegance take the Nixon watches out of the league of sports watches, and places them in the favorite day-to-day wear category for many. In fact it is their style that makes the Nixon watch a hot choice for the younger and older generations alike.  Somehow, these watches manage to come across as fashionable and tough all at the same time.

The Nixon watches have another great advantage over the other sports watches – they have a very long life. Since they are crafted with excellent care, they are trouble free and hence they are used for years together without any complaints. This is one type of watch which once you buy, you can simply forget about its maintenance. One other aspect of Nixon watches that puts it into a different league of accessories altogether is the ‘wow factor’ or its looks. This wow-factor or in other words the ability of these watches to make heads turn is unmatched yet.

The Nixon watches are trendy, well designed and exceptionally good looking. So much so, that people who wear them get appreciative glances wherever they go. There are very few sports watches in the world, if at all, which have the ‘wow-factor’ and the Nixon watch is one of them.  The Rocker model from the Nixon watch series is particularly attractive, offering its wearer a distinct and elegant look.
